Departing from Ushuaia, a town in Argentina. Located on the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, the southernmost tip of South America, nicknamed the “End of the World.” We sailed up the Beagle Channel and into what is known in the area as "Glacier Alley". Here two smaller glaciers have collided with each other when the valleys "up glacier" came together. As they move they both scrape off sediment from the valley sides and this material is wedged in between the glaciers. It is then transported down the valley together with the ice.

In order to get this shot there was patience and luck involved. This is what is known as a glacier calving, which is a big chunk falling off the end. The big chunk is the size 10 - 20 story building. If you have ever been around a glacier calving you will know the sound, it is like a gun shot. To get this photo I listened to the sounds of the glacier and watched the movement in the glacier. I focussed on one area, waited, heard the gun shot and pressed the shutter as the ice fell into the water.
