According to my guide Hraunfossar - Lava Falls are off the beaten path and not seen by many visitors. It is a beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River. It is pretty weird to look at a waterfall and see no river or stream above it. But it is a spectacular site to see in the autumn with all of folliage above the falls turning colours.
